How to save GIFs from X
Here's something most people don't know: the "GIFs" you see on X aren't GIF files at all. X turns them into small, silent MP4 videos that loop. That keeps them sharp and much smaller than a real GIF.
Save one
- Copy the post's link from the share menu in X.
- Paste it on X Post Downloader. The card is labeled GIF.
- Tap the download button. You'll get an MP4 that plays and loops in most players.
Need a real .gif file?
Some chat apps and older sites only accept the .gif format. Run the MP4 through any video-to-GIF converter; many free ones work in the browser and on phones. Expect the GIF to be several times larger than the MP4, so keep it short.
Good to know
- GIF posts usually come in one size only, which is normal.
- They have no sound, because X strips audio from GIFs.
- Many GIFs are clips from films and shows. Saving one for a group chat is one thing, but don't use them commercially.
Ready? Open X Post Downloader and paste your link.
